About Me

My photo
I am a retired RN with 50 years of experience. My experience spans ICU, ER, Telemetry, Administrative Supervision and Clinical Documentation Integrity. I grew up on a farm in Western Pennsylvania. I didn't have other children close by to play with, so animals became my friends. Although I love and enjoy all animals, cats have always been my favorite. I have lived in Southern California since 1980. My husband and I are coexisting with Fanny. She is the DIVA that inspired my book and this blog. I hope you enjoy reading about my feline friends. I also share some childhood memories which may spark some memories of your own.

Back To The Calming Collar

Well, we were doing very well with not using the calming collar. Actually we haven't used it for at least 6 months.

We had to try it last year because Fanny was acting restless, depressed and just not acting like herself. You can take a look at my previous post from February, 2021.

So she did great for about 4 or 5 months and we were able to leave it off. Between our automatic feeder and the collar she was not waking us up at 4:30 am and she was interacting a little more with us....especially with her BFF (my husband).

Then recently she started howling early in the morning again and getting nervous when my husband wasn't at home. I felt bad for her because she looked so sad.

So I ordered the collars again and have been using it for over a month now. She has stopped the howling and is even interacting with ME now.

She looks more alert and even checks out her toys every evening.

I know her age has a lot to do with her behavior and I just want her to be as happy as possible. She had her physical in December and everything was fine except her kidney function shows she has Stage 2 kidney disease. But we've known that for a long time and she remains on her special diet.

The calming collar

This is the one I am using now. It's a Pheromone collar. There is a slight odor from it. My husband doesn't like it and I have caught him taking it off Fanny a few times. We discussed that. lol

I find the smell to be like a weird lavender but not offensive.

Here she is getting ready to get down from the bed using her steps. Yes, she loves her steps. It's much easier for her to get up and down with her old, arthritic hips.

You can read about building your own steps for you cat ( or dog) in my post from December, 2021

Well, that's all I have for today. I know I haven't been posting much lately. So sorry. I hope to do better.

Take care of yourselves and your precious cats. And thank you for visiting my blog.
