About Me

My photo
I am a retired RN with 50 years of experience. My experience spans ICU, ER, Telemetry, Administrative Supervision and Clinical Documentation Integrity. I grew up on a farm in Western Pennsylvania. I didn't have other children close by to play with, so animals became my friends. Although I love and enjoy all animals, cats have always been my favorite. I have lived in Southern California since 1980. My husband and I are coexisting with Fanny. She is the DIVA that inspired my book and this blog. I hope you enjoy reading about my feline friends. I also share some childhood memories which may spark some memories of your own.

Ozzie The Rooster, Circa 1961

My Mom with Ozzie

Ozzie was my pet rooster

When I was about 10 years old my parents bought me one of those Easter chicks at Woolworth's.  The ones they dyed different colors.  He was blue if I remember correctly.

I raised him in the house until he was full grown. Then it was time for him to go in with the other chickens.  He didn't like that.

He fought with other roosters. Wasn't well liked in the fowl community.

And every night he came on our porch at sunset and waited for one us to walk him to the chicken coop.  He would then jump up on a roost and go to sleep.

The sad ending is that I think my Dad butchered him and so I didn't eat chicken for quite a long time.

Found An Activity for Fanny

Senior cats need encouragement to be active.

Fanny doesn't play with her toys anymore and like I've mentioned before, she seems depressed since losing her best friend CC.

I read an article that suggested putting treats in an egg carton.

This gets the cat engaged and they get exercise.  It worked!!!

Have you ever tried this?

CC Was Fanny's Best Friend

Some background info:  CC was Fanny's best friend. CC was 20 when we had to put her to sleep due to ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease).

They had been together 16 years.  You can read their story and why Fanny may be in a depressed state.  Check out the link on my main page.

Tell me what you think of the book.

Game Night

Well, I have been trying to find ways to get Fanny engaged in some activity.

The Pheromone collar is still questionable.😩 She won't play with her toys or with me.

Anyway I tried a little game with her treats tonight.  She seemed interested and I'll try to think of new ways to get her to perk up a little.

Anyone have any ideas?

I need help!!!

Update: Fanny and her Pheromone collar

Fanny is getting used to her Pheromone calming collar I think.

She seems calmer and a little less stressed but still very "needy".  She got us up at 6am this morn instead of 5am.  It's a start.  And not so vocal.

I guess I'll give it a little more time.  It's only day 2.

She may still be in a depression.  Seems sad.

I'd love to hear from anyone else who has had experience with the Pheromone collars or diffusers.

Fanny And Separation Anxiety

Fanny has had separation anxiety since we had to put her 20 year old bestie (CC) asleep in July 2020.

She has to be close to me or my husband or she starts to cry and howl.  And when she wakes up in the morning she howls soooo loud until one of us gets up.

When one of us leaves the house she sits by the door and howls.

So I am trying a Pheromone calming collar.  I am hoping it will help her relax a little.

I'll give updates on our progress in the days to come.

Lazy Day

Today was a lazy, dreary day here in sunny California.

Fanny took the day off.

Who am I to criticize since I didn't get out of bed until noon.

A Sled Riding Cat

I know the quality of this photo is terrible but it's the best this 10 year old girl could do in 1961.

But Bobby has a story.  He was orange, muscular and quite smart.

I would go sled riding and he would follow me to the top of the hill.  Soon he started jumping on my back for the ride down and we would walk back up together for the next ride.

But then.....he showed his high IQ.   He started jumping on the sled and having me pull him up the hill.  Might I say, he was not a light cat.

I didn't think too much about it but my parents thought it was amazing ( and hysterical).

Cute little kittens

Cute little kittens I had when I was little.  Circa early 1960's.

At one time, counting the barn cats and my personal cats, I had access to greater than 20 cats and kittens one summer.

Since there were no other kids around they were great entertainment.  I loved them all.

She Won't Share

Well,  it appears it will be necessary to buy a new heating pad.

Fanny has taken over this one.

My Home is a Marsh

I was born in 1951 and grew up on a farm in Western Pennsylvania.

Even though I have lived in Southern California since 1980, I still call Western Pa. home.

Several years ago my farm was turned into the Beaver County Conservation District Environmental Center.  In other words.....it was basically turned into a marsh.

Although our home is gone I have plenty of memories of my special pets.  And I will routinely share them with you.

Welcome!

Hello,

I want to welcome you to my blog.  I have so many stories to tell.

Today I want to introduce you to Fanny.  She has been a part of our family for 17 years now.

As you can see from the photo,  she is full of attitude.

As time goes on you will learn about my love of cats and meet some of the pets I have had over the years.

I hope you will come back and visit soon and feel free to share with your friends.
